The Teeth Whitening Process

Step 1: Preparing the Teeth

Before the whitening process begins, your dentist will clean your teeth and remove any plaque or stains. They may also use a special gel to remove any surface stains from your teeth, such as tea or coffee. Your dentist will use special toothpaste to make the teeth more receptive to whitening. This paste will also help remove any surface stains, and it can help prevent cavities.

Step 2: Bleaching the Teeth

The next step is bleaching the teeth. Your dentist will take a special whitening solution and apply it with a special brush. The solution will be applied by the dentist one tooth at a time. Sometimes the dentist will use the whitening solution by itself, and other times, they will use a mixture of the whitening solution and a gel that will help to speed up the bleaching process.

Once your dentist starts the bleaching process, they will place a barrier over the teeth. This barrier, which can be a clear plastic tray, a rubber sheet, or a special tray specially designed for the whitening process, will protect the teeth from any damage caused by the whitening method. Your dentist will also use ultraviolet light to expedite the whitening process.

Step 3: Waiting for the Teeth to Whiten

Once the bleaching process is complete, you will have to wait for the new teeth to become white. During this time, your dentist will continue to check your teeth. At the end of the whitening process, your dentist will determine whether they would like to continue whitening. If they would like to continue, they will remove the plastic barrier and finish the whitening process. If you want to discontinue the whitening process, you will be able to do so at this point.

Step 4: Aftercare

After the whitening process is complete, your dentist will recommend that you continue to use the whitening gel regularly to maintain the whiteness of the teeth. The whitening gel will help keep the teeth white and prevent future stains. You should use this whitening gel for a minimum of six months, two to four times per day during the first two weeks. After this time, you may use the gel once per day. The longevity and effectiveness of the whitening method depend on your diligence in using the gel regularly.
